Consumer Protection Law
- Class number: 2021
- Term: Summer 2007
- Instructor: Anne Goldstein; Bonnie B. Roswig
This course examines state and federal laws aimed at protecting consumers, and includes a live-client clinical component. We will review the development of consumer protection law, with particular focus on the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, and relevant state laws. We will also consider the recent revision of the bankruptcy code and its effect on consumer debt. As part of the course, students will be trained in debt counseling and will participate in a service session where they provide such counseling to low-income clients. Students who have taken Consumer Law (LAW 761) may not enroll in this course, and vice versa.
