This seminar will explore in depth several problems and developments in contemporary health care law. Topics may include, but are not limited to: the Terry Schiavo controversy; financial incentives for physicians to comply with clinical best-practices guidelines; informed consent; the impact of antitrust rules on the cost and availability of health care; and the role of licensing/disciplinary bodies in establishing clinical standards of care. Students will be required to complete a research paper, make one or more class presentations, and actively participate in class discussions. Prerequisite: Health Law (LAW 865) or Health Care Policy and the Law (LAW 893).
