Examines investigative settings and techniques. The course concentrates on investigations in four contexts: grand jury investigations; Independent Counsel investigations; Congressional investigations and internal corporate investigations. The seminar addresses legal, ethical and practical issues arising in these investigative settings and includes a case study for each of the four areas. The case studies consist of a grand jury investigation of police corruption, an Independent Counsel investigation of a sitting President, a Congressional investigation of a law enforcement agency's handling of a case, and an internal corporate investigation involving obstruction of justice and other issues. Students are required to make a presentation to the class, which includes the submission of a paper.
