Tax Court Advocacy

This course is designed to give students an opportunity to coordinate their knowledge of tax law and evidence in a realistic and dramatic setting, with the aim of developing some facility in the techniques of Tax Court trial practice. Students meet once a week for a seminar (2 hours.) Problems demonstrated or otherwise raised for consideration include the following: how to begin a Tax Court case; the process of stipulation of facts; motions practice; preparing a client and/or witness to testify; and Tax Court practice regarding brief. Throughout the course, stress will be placed on the proper discharge of the attorney's functions and responsibilities in a professional manner. Students will participate in a Mock Tax Court trial at the end of the semester.
