Liability Insurance

This course provides a detailed examination of the legal principles associated with liability insurance with major emphasis on automobile liability (including uninsured motorist coverage), commercial general liability, homeowners liability, professional liability, directors and officers liability and errors and omissions coverage. Reference also is made to insurance law issues relating to environmental impairment liability, product liability, and exposures peculiar to employers, municipalities, and sureties. Students explore the concepts of insurable interest, contract construction, the scope of coverage and what is an 'occurrence,' as well as the rights and obligations of both insured and insurers--particularly concerning the defense and settlement of claims.
