This course is an examination of the law of negotiable instruments under Articles 3 and 4 of the Uniform Commercial Code. Topics covered include the concept of negotiability, the functions and formal requisites of negotiable instruments, the holder in due course, parties' liabilities on instruments, and the consequences of forgeries and alteration of instruments. An introduction to the obligations of individuals and banks in the check collection process also is provided. At the discretion of the instructor, the law of electronic funds transfers, credit cards, documents of title and letters of credit also may be reviewed.
