Quantitative Methods

This course is designed to give law students with no quantitative background an introduction to basic quantitative methods that are widely used in fields of tax, banking, corporations, and business-related subjects, as well as administrative law, environmental law and other courses with a significant public policy focus. A broader goal is to provide students with a sense of how to reason quantitatively, in ways that are increasingly useful in many aspects of legal practice. Throughout, the emphasis is on developing sound judgment and intuition rather than memorizing formulas or fixed rules. The intent is to train students to become critical consumers of quantitative analysis, rather than producers of new research. However, because much of the material is best learned by actually performing the required calculations for one's self, the course involves numerous problems and practical exercises.
