This course is an introduction to the regulation of the workplace. Topics to be addressed include, among others: the meaning of employee and employer; the at-will default rule; oral and implied contracts; written contracts and expressly negotiated terms of employment; the public policy exception to the at-will rule; traditional torts in the employment relationship; and discrimination in the workplace. Additional topics that may be considered include occupational health and safety, employee financial security plans, privacy, tenure, business closings and relocations, and the rights of public employees.
